What this site is

A set of free calculators and explanatory articles about US personal finance. They are educational tools intended to help you understand how a particular rule or mechanism works and roughly what it means for a set of numbers you supply.

This is not advice

Nothing on this site is financial, investment, tax, accounting or legal advice, and nothing here creates a professional relationship of any kind between you and us. We do not know your circumstances, and a calculator cannot take account of what it is not told.

Results are estimates. Every calculator states the assumptions it makes and what it does not model, and those exclusions are real. A result that ignores your state taxes, your credits or your particular situation may differ substantially from what you actually owe or receive. Before acting on anything you read here, consult a professional who can see your whole position.

Accuracy

We take accuracy seriously and have built the site around it: figures are transcribed from primary sources, the arithmetic is tested against externally published results, and unverified values cannot reach a page. Our methodology explains how.

Even so, this site is provided “as is” and without warranty of any kind, express or implied. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or current with the law as it stands on the day you read it. Tax rules change, and published figures are occasionally revised by the authorities that issue them. If you believe something here is wrong, please tell us.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or from any decision you make in reliance on it, including any lost profits, lost savings, tax liability, penalty or interest. You are responsible for your own financial decisions.

Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Using the site

You may use these calculators freely, for yourself or in the course of your work, and you may link to any page here. You may quote or cite our explanations with attribution.

What you may not do:

• Republish substantial portions of the content as your own, or present our calculators as your own tool.
• Attempt to disrupt the site, or access it by automated means at a rate that degrades it for other people.
• Use anything here in a way that is unlawful, or that presents these estimates to someone else as professional advice.

Third-party material

Where we link to IRS, Social Security Administration or other external material, that material belongs to its publisher and is subject to their terms. We are not responsible for the content of any site we link to.

Changes

These terms may change. The current version is always the one on this page, and the date at the top shows when it last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

This site is published from and intended for use in the United States, and these terms are governed by US law. Nothing here is written for, or should be relied on in, any other jurisdiction.
